Why are people over 70 treated as being stupid?
EILEEN W 31055625-Nov-20 07:21 am
I am still working as an educational consultant, an acting coach, an actor for commercials, involved in numerous community and charity organisations and yet so many people who do not know me, treat me as a lesser being, making me wait while younger people get priority, explain things (often wrongly) when I haven't asked or talk to me slowly! I have two degrees teaching and counselling diplomas, have worked all my life, written books and manuals but I am sick of being treated by shop assistants, waiters, customer service people (especially on telephone) as if I am senile.
The majority of my friends 65+ also express the same frustrations.
Is it because of the trend for cult of celebrity, plastic surgery and youth sense of entitlement?

It seems the last few years young people have turned their backs on anyone more than a decade older than them and appear to believe that surely we must be on our way to death and senility - wait until they have to use a cane or hearing aids. Listening to the speed and silliness of the young's speech reminds me of a clutch of overexcited chooks!

I like to act old and stupid because it gets me lots of things, like seats on trains, discounts on groceries and cautions instead of speeding tickets…

Yes I do believe its a bite of a trend cult but I remember having a hard time getting my mother and my In-laws when they where in their 70's to move forward in time. It was like they where stuck in a time zone.

When you get to 50 you had better hope you like your job or that you are self employed..no-one is going to give you a job...you are a threat to the person who employs you (loyalty no longer exists) survey companies start to lose all interest at 60...and its funny because these young people now have evolved limited attention spans and cannot concentrate...coupled with falling levels in general education in most countries...and that a smart phone is now an extension of their bodies...AND their intelligence/memory....I find it entertaining when I'm treated like I'm the one who is "special"...it is a sad reflection on our society.... as John says if you have the right passport the only job that is easy to get when you pass 70 is President of a country ...When did we all start needing Grandpa Presidents?

It’s called Ageism and should be outlawed in the same way calling someone of colour a “n” or someone gay a “fag.” After all the millenials have no trouble with our money for house deposits, free babysitting and inheritances. “Ha ha ha isn’t it funny. You don’t like me, but you like my money.” Except in my case I don’t have any, or any property either so my worth if I took any notice of their pretentions would be zero. Well they can go jump, because our lives also matter. BIG TIME! “Hey Boomer we matter!”

Yes, it is Ageism definitely. Otherwise what about Gerontocracy? Why the president of Any Country should be over 70th?
