A doll with movable arms and legs my grandmother gave me. Moved from UK to Australia and Belinda came too. Handmade clothes were made for her .I am 70 and still have her .I loved my grandma very much .

I still have my doll Cheryl but my mother threw everything else away. I kept everything from my children's lives, even the band from their wrist when they were born. One day I sorted through all the works of art, certificates, the home-made cards and asked the children if they wanted them. However, we still have a box of toys although my eldest son has taken the toys he wanted his children to have. One of these days we'll have to get rid of all of it but no-one sems to want any of it. I have beautiful book collections but none of the family, apart from me, reads books. It's so sad.

Because I was the eldest a lot of my early toys got handed down. Mainly I remember a Teddy who was passed down to the other 3 kids in my family. I believe my only surviving brother took that to his marital home when he first got married. He may still have it

My grandpa used to give me handfuls of pennies from his shoe shop repair. I spent most of them on charms in the gum machines. I still have hundreds of them. I also still have my walking doll and the dress my mother made for her. I wish I would have saved more things.

I won a Junior School Swimming Championship cup when I was 11 and I have still got it. I have tried many times to throw it away as noone else in the family were all that interested in swimming races but it always ends up back either on the kitchen table or in my bedroom. I dont bring it back into the house but it still reappears after rubbish day has gone. I am now 79 and it is still with me unpolished unloved but still somewhere in the house just out of sight.

Most lost in moving house,especially interstate where we literally came back with what we could fit in the old Holden station wagon. We could only take 1 small bag each, mine contained 1 change of clothes and all the family photos I could fit in it. I remember mum being so angry at me for not bringing more clothes. We couldn't afford to buy more. But I didn't care,the photos meant more to me.

  She should have been glad, LESS washing!!??? ... sorry, just trying to look on the "brighter" side of your predicament. Mine told me off for pulling my hat over my eyes, when we were escaping to anotther country, told me I couldn't see where I was going .. told her I didn't want to see where I was going .. was more concerned about my eyebrowns and anything freezing and dropping off in the -20 degrees and a meter of snow. I had packed my reader though as hadn't finished my homework yet and in case we got caught and I got into trouble ... though if that had happened on our side of the border we'd have been put assunder.

I have my first big thick Storybook for Boys signed and dated from my grandmother. Good memories still... without even opening the cover since age 5. She always said that everything you ever want to know is written in a book somewhere. You just need to find it.

I've still got my Koala sent to me from friends of my parents, who emigrated to Australia when I was 5 and sent me him for Xmas. They have since moved on, my father has died and my Mum is in a home back in UK, but I still have my little Koala. He is cherished.

  That's terrible. I can completely relate. My mother gave away everything of my father when he passed,couldn't bare having it to remind her. I salvaged 1 photo of me and him,my grandmother had a couple of my parents hidden. That's all I have of him. I didn't understand as I child,I do now,but was heartbreaking all the same.

I have books ,a couple of my mother's first handmade soft toys and probably a board game somewhere . My first tiny little wooden chair as well. Mum had a way of throwing stuff out so no dolls anymore . I had 'velvet doll 'with an extendable plaited ponytail when you pressed her belly button.. no idea what happened to her :(

Does things that belonged to our grandparents count? One red hat with a white pompom, which I manage to retrieve before my mum, gave it away, however the mittens, top and pants she didn' t le me keep. Those clothes kept me from freezing in the metre high snow when we escaped in 1957 .. these was also a coat which dad sold or exchanged for something when we were in the "reffo camp", probably got himselve so cigarettes. I still have the hat and it still fits me .. nice to know that I didn't get a "big head" about anything!!!

l have nothing in the way of momentums from my childhood but l have many memories some are good some not so good for instance my mum was my teacher my protection my everything. She passed when l was 10 years of age that was the end of my everything. What l have learnt from that after 60 years without her is to go with the blows and do everything we can to be here for our children grandchildren and future great grandchildren let them know constantly how much we love them 🙏❤️🙏Edited 18-Mar-25 08:31am

my father passed when I was young, mum said we could have anything to keep in his memory, I grabbed a Bells Scotch whiskey ceramic bottle, unopened, the contents have since long gone we opened it on my 21st birthday so he could have a drink with us, but I still have the bottle ,that was just over 50 years ago
