It will never happen. Best that COULD happen - have planes that create less pollution. Having said that - I see cars and trucks on the road blowing out black pollution - and nothing is being done about them. So why attack planes??

Companies are already producing all electric airplanes! Everything is going electric, and there are so many sources to product electricity. Let's face it we do live at the bottom of the world (well nearly). Ever since The white' man arrived we have had the wish to see what the rest of the world looks like and some of the population has had the finances to do that. I don't think controlling pollution bothers most air craft passengers in the least.

If we started baning air planes what else would we ban.

It may not be practical in Australia at this time but there are many ways in which we can make massive reductions in the Pollution we cause. Today, thanks to Technology, our Federal, State and Territory politicians have absolutely No Need to travel to any conferences anywhere. They could acheive even better results using Video Conferencing. We should immediately ban Ministers, including Prime Ministers, and other politicians from chartering aircraft so that they can visit their electorates. How many International Conferences, which our pollies love to attend because it is a Free Junket for them all, could just as easily be conducted via Video Conferencing? Probably all of them. These International Conferences are all planned Months, if not Years before they take place so there can be No Valid reasons why Prime Ministers, Ministers, other politicians and their armies of hanger-ons cannot book and travel on Scheduled Commercial Flights instead of the PM using a special RAAF jet. Check out how the Biggest Contributors to Air Pollution, Presidents of the USA, travel around. They have their own Jumbo Jet and then following behind that there are more of these fuel-guzzling, polluting Jumbo Jets behind them carrying their Sole Use Gas-guzzling, polluting Limousines! Do they really think other countries could not provide suitable safe transport for the politicians to swan around in? Do all of our politicians, including Presidents, really believe themselves to be so important that any of us really give a damn about them? How about our politicians stop just chattering about having Very Fast Trains between the capitals and actually make them a reality? They could all travel on them for there is nothing so important needing to be done that has to be done immediately. Of course they will do nothing for they are far too interested in themselves to be bothered thinking about how much damage they are doing as a direct result of their Selfishness and Greed.

I can't see air travel ever stopping. It would take every country to agree and certain 'leaders' would not let that happen. Besides, think of the unemployment from all aspects of air travel. On the bright side, we might become better swimmers.

I don't see any way around it unless they come up with another fuel source. Air travel of some kind is essential. What if they made ships faster and with some type of anti-polluting fuel? They think electricity is the answer to end pollution, but it isn't! It has been proven that the air is full of all types of electricity, and no one knows what its impact is. On some people, it can be fatal. Fortunately, most people aren't that sensitive to it. Do you think we will evolve so our bodies aren't harmed by these things? I don't. According to the airship that crashed in Brazil, the aliens are here looking for another type of fuel because their planet is ruined, and people are dying from all the radiation and chemicals used in their technology. I believe they have given us this technology, and we will follow them to destruction unless we get wise enough to question the effects of all the forms of electricity in the air. From what I heard; Wi-Fi is terribly dangerous. No one cares because they love the internet and will continue to grasp whatever technology is thrown at them without question. We need to wise up and get rid of cell phones. I remember well when we lived fine without them and were more sociable, less depressed and there were no random shootings!!!

One of my favourite TV programs is "Air Crash Investigations"....Boeing and Air Bus keep me entertained.....Most crashes happen at night, believe it or not, Solar powered flight already exists....OR give passengers prepared to peddle the generators a discount LOL .

Society is so relient on air travel these days, it can't be turned off. I know I don't fly these days but that really doesn't help. Hydrogen planes could of been in use many years in the past, but they are not because the oil industry never wants it to be that way. Still air flight should be reduced fairly soon due to oil supplies, so if it's still going to be in use there needs to be another way in which the oil industry doesn't benefit as much.

I will never support a ban on Air travel but we can have planes that be environmentally friendly can't we.

Living in Australia it would take 28 days for a parcel to be delivered as well as other goods coming from overseas using ships that are polluting the Oceans.

I LOVE MY AIR TRAVEL . ARRIVED HOME TODAY FROM 21 DAYS IN EUROPE. TRAVELED FOR 34 HOURS TO GET BACK. THEY HAVE DEVELOPED AN ELECTRIC COMERCIAL PLANE HERE IN NZ. AIR NZ IS WORKING ON USING A BIO FUEL. WE ARE DOING OUR BIT.

It is sort of happening to an extent. France has banned short haul flights if there is a train that can be used. It can never be done on a large scale for long haul flights.

The world economy would quite probably collapse. Can you imagine going back to the days when it took over a week to cross the ocean by ship? Have your mail take weeks to get across the country? How in the world would you be able to pay your VISA on time? How could all the national banks make more than 3 billion dollars per quarter? Oh the humanity! air travel is one of the largest polluters around,until the make solar powered planes for people,stop telling me climate change is my fault and i have to change my ways,go onto one of those apps like flight radar and have a look over europe,any given time hundreds of jets spewing out pollution,just one of these flights would put out more pollution than i would in 20 years,of course theyll never change it,its all about the money

That would be a sad thing. Travel is necessary to see family, friends, mental health. You need to destress and that is vacation .

I know people have to travel for work, family reasons etc etc but yes it would be wonderful if we could reduce the amount people travel especially by planes. It would be good if they could find a way to reduce the pollution the planes produce. Our population is too large for this planet and very unattainable and some thing major will happen if we don't reduce our carbon dependency.

During the pandemic, flights were stopped, and aircraft were grounded. I didn't notice anybody heralding the fact that the air quality was any better or that pollution had decreased. Nobody from the climate change lobby called upon it and stated, 'see the earth is now cooler because air travel was banned.' I wonder if it made any difference at all.Edited 02-Jun-23 11:23am

Banning it isn't going to happen because way too many people want to go to Bali and misbehave so we need a way to clean up the gasses emitted by Turbo Fan Engines or in the case of smaller aircraft Turbo Propeller Engines which are basically a Jet Engine turning a big fan to develop thrust.

Interesting question personally it wouldn't worry me-I don't travel. With out air travel I guess more people would communicate digitally, but then that can fail. Not sure if some humans could handle 'not being there personally'. Tourism would slow considerably. The goods that are currently air freighted would take much longer by sea. Is air travel any worse than sea? In answer to the actual question I don't know

It would affect a whole range of things. Just imagine the snowball effect and the worldwide economy. The lost jobs, income and also from that self worth, being able support yourself and family, the effects of mental health! Small business, agriculture etc. I could go in and on! I’m sure there is a better answer to the pollution issue than banning air travel!

Aside from nobody being able to travel, no goods or services will be delivered quickly. Shipping also pollutes, so does farting, breathing, driving, producing gas and coal fired electricity and everything else. You really think the military would want to give up flying, naval activities etc? Shut down the space program while we are at it ROFL, Shut down manufacturing as well. Let's just go back to living in caves and running around naked and foraging as having clothes, shoes, a house and everything in it contributes to pollution.
