MedsCheck Program in Canada
Jahan 1402705Mar 03, 24
MedsCheck is a government program. For reviewing customer's medication to ensure individuals are informed about their prescription and taking the right combination of medicine. This service is performed by the pharmacies to the public and it's free. But the Canadian health Ministry reimburses pharmacies up to $75 per call.
Canadian province Ontario's Ministry of health said, it already paid out $60 million for MedChecks in the 2022 2023 fiscal year but declined to provide a financial breakdown showing how that money was spread between different pharmacies.
Do you think this is something a corporate corruption?

My pharmacy requests one occasionally for the Dr.to take the time to check what he is prescribing and check if some of them are still necessary or simply need changes. However check the list before you give it to the pharmacist. My GP didn't check his computer properly and missed vital medications off the list. What's more they were basically a life saving medication. Not long before he had listed them as put in webster pack. The new list was for a hospital. Their staff and pharmacy staff refused to ring my Dr. or normal pharmacy for verification and I had to fight to get it corrected. You do not skip Epilepsy medication without risking your life

I don't know the Canadian system at all so 🤷 I can keep my mouth closed and have people think I am ignoring them than to open it and prove that I am an ignorant xenophobic to another country and culture but I do know that our currencies are set at a different rate

Sounds like a cash cow to me. Sounds like something a socialist government would introduce. They always know how to spend and waste tax payer money.

Once or twice every year I know our pharmacist checks their customers to see that their current medicine list is "fit for purpose", i.e. they are not still taking medicines for which they have scripts but which may have been changed for higher or lower dosage or newer medicines. This is done through various Government Departments and customers are not charged for this service.

All government programmes, be they in Australia, Canada, the US, UK or anywhere else become corrupted. For example: Why can a Private Enterprise Hospital Group, such as Clavary in Australia build a State of the Art Hospital, which has More Beds, the very latest in medical eqipment for under $AU500 million in South Australia at the same time the South Australian Government builds it's new hospital, aka the Royal Adelaide Hospital whuich had an initial price tag of $AU1,8 billion, then more than 3 times the cost of the New Calvary Adelaide Hospital, but which exploded to a whopping $AU2.3 billion and then we were told that we would have to pay $AU1 million per day for another 29 years before that,by then obsolete, new Royal Adelaide Hospital would actually become the property of South Australia. Total cost? That, ladies and gentlemenr is close to a mere, but eye-watering, $AU13 billion. The Most Expensive Building in the World. A hospital which some in the Medical Professions, and surely they would know, say is Not Fit for Purpose. Someone, somewhere, has made a fortune bigger than the entire wealth of some countries. People will always find ways to get around government programmes and they will get away with it because, basically, the Public Servants, Civil Servants, Public Employees and their political masters/mistresses have neither the time nor the interest if stopping any of it.

I don't know if this is corruption or not . My hubby and I take multiple medications and the pharmacist came to our home to go through our medications, vitamins etc to make sure they didn't react to each other. I think it is a service provided by our local pharmacy

Well I think all governments pay some thing to doctors, GP's and chemists. I wouldn't know really how or how much they get here in Australia. No wonder the governments have no money for other important things. We are very grateful for the public hospital as they did operate on my husband about 4 years ago and saved his life. The government would have paid for it all even though he had gone through hell to get there and the operation didn't need to be as huge if the doctors had said yes it is a sarcoma sooner than when it was diagnosed. Never mind he's in a good place now and on the other side of that trauma.

about once a year the pharmacist came to my mother who was in her 90's to check if she new how to use her medication correctly do not know if the government pay for this service would assume it is a good thing for elderly people living independently , I was her carer for the last six years of her life, I did not look after the medication she was very independent , passed away at 99, she would not have a webster pack I wonder if this is available in Canada as it is a great tool for people who take a few medications particularly if they are at different times of the day. The customer pays for this not the government, people in aged care have to use them.

you're not dopey, that is what a webster pack is, but as well as the cost of the medications you have to pay for it to be put together. I had one made up when I went on a cruise about 10 years ago, it cost $5 (probably a lot more now) but it was much better than taking all of the boxes and bottles and spending time getting them all ready to take morning, noon and night.

They also probably do not keep the figures you are talking about as all they are interested in is the overall cost of the program and it is what they have directed the Bureaucrats to follow. Though if people are honest with them and declare all the Meds that they are taking it would be very useful in picking up different meds that adversely impact on any of the others and stop the massive waste of meds that occur in most of the developed world.

No knowledge of them being reimbursed for it though by our government. I think it is more a duty of care for them as it should be. It is not fool proof and many mistakes still occur. With all the software out there surely a quick click of a button should bring this up easily. You take this and then get prescribed that a warning should come up immediately. Not hard. Should not cost the taxpayers as in Canadas case $75 a call which is a rip off. Corporate corruption, don't think so just ineptness but of course people will take advantage of any money a government is wishing to hand out willy nilly.

YES (in my opinion - based on the info in your scenario)!
