Black Market Cigarettes
GrommieApr 04, 25
The price of cigarettes in New Zealand has now hit $50 a packet., of which 80% is tax. Successive governments have pushed the tax up to try to reduce the incidence of smoking in the NZ population.
It has spawned a black market, some of which is illegal importation, others have come onto the market as a result of corner shop burglaries.
What is the experience of other countries? Are your smoking stats reducing? Why?
