Discussion of the Day
Should any books be banned?
Richard 1480427Aug 24, 24
While growing up during the Cold War, I was repeatedly taught that a big difference between us and the USSR was that the USSR banned books while we, in the free world, wouldn't do such a thing. Today, we are seeing many books banned in parts of America. Personally, I never thought that I'd see the day when books would be banned in America!

Not all books should be banned but some books which represent graphic violence, sexually explicit, disrespect for parents and their background and also offensive language should be banned. This is my honest point of view.

No longer much of a reader not too fussed. Only pick up the king James Bible these days. Or a receipe book. All other reading I now source from google. I find the grandkids don't appreciate books much either. Banning material I don't quite understand but erotic mags shouldn't be left on display but each to their own.

No books are banned. Not having them in school libraries is not the same thing.

If they have been deliberately excluded from being able to be in libraries based on the contents of the books, it amounts to effectively the same as banning them.

Yes, disturbing books with details of how to get away with crimes or murder

I don't think anyone gets away with too much anymore thanks to forensics, but I love murder and crime stories.

There isn't any valid rationale to ban any book. However, every government on this planet ban books - including the USA. What is your point...it is eluding me...

I feel that books teaching violence, terrorism, DYI bombs, etc. should be banned.

There is something disturbing going on in the USA...in the background....things aren't the same anymore...it is like it is slowly going backwards in time...or unravelling..I find it all a bit scary myself...America needs to be stable.... banning books is the first step and burning them comes shortly after.... its not a good look....

They used to burn Bibles! Some religions don't want people to know what's in the Bible so they can teach doctrines that aren't true, like a hell where unrighteous will be tormented through all eternity. Just look at the sky, the clouds, stars and planets! A loving God created the universe, and the earth for us to live upon forever. Satan, the devil, lied, and Adam and Eve sinned causing all of this to happen to us. Soon it will come to an end. ;-D

No books should not be banned but I guess certain books need to be monitored i.e. books for children. Some once had the idea of banning Noddy and Big Ears due to some homophobic person. As a child this never crossed my mind. Cartoon Heckle and Jeckle was another cartoon that was questioned and again even as an adult it never crossed my mind. Maybe I am naive but then so are children. Of course, suggestive books are a no no for children as I said, monitored. Books bring about ideas, discussions, debates, education, etc. Many religions control book reading as they have closed minds in most cases. The top ten read books are as follows: The Bible. ...Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-Tung (Mao Zedong) ...Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. ...The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. ...The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. ...The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. ...The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. ...Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.Quite a diverse reading matter in my opinion.

Certain books should not bbe available for certain age groups. Stories like Heather has two daddies or having a drag queen story hour in kindergarten to fourth grade is not appropriate

Heather has two daddies was written to help children in these circumstances. As for drag queen story hour in schools, I agree, not appropriate but I think most kids would think they were just dressing up for the story time.
