I'm also from New Zealand, and the idea of a 16 year old voting is just rediculous!!, unless perhaps they are out of school and working full time.

It is ridiculous to lower the voting age to 16...they are still children and have no idea about politics...it can also be said for some adults who don't really understand the importance of their vote...just look at this government (Australia) and their broken promises and high cost of energy. It is the government's role to take care of the people, not their own interests!!

Its a move by the woke left wing and government to increase voter base as they are in serious risk of being kicked out in 2023.Really this age they are still children and in general easily lead. At 18 I started voting and also volunteered for the Infantry and served my country. This age group in general only serves them selves, we have 5 kids (all adults now) but at times you could see a self centred attitude. They are just not mature enough and have very little world experience

They may as well start giving the vote to newborns or foetuses in the womb if TPTB are planning to give 16 year old teens, who haven't the right to drink, serve their country in war, drive a vehicle on the road without a responsible adult in the vehicle with them or purchase alcohol to consume the rightto vote whilestilla student!. I was a pretty responsible teenager at 16 but I couldn't vote because I was too YOUNG and teens these days are still sucking their thumbs at age 16 or else they're throwing soup at masterpieces and sitting down on major highways to protest that the world is ending while screaming "we've got to stop using oil and gas and we must ONLY use windmills ans solar and stop driving cars" and this will lead us back in time to a pre Industrial Revolutionary lifestyle and damn the people who will die this winter because they won't have the money or the ability to heat their homes! Giving a 16 year old person the vote means that the vote will be one sided and that's to the far left. They believe that their parents, that's us, are responsible for destroying their planet and the people they ARE listening to are using extremely well designed propaganda to convince them that planet earth is dying and that WE are killing their opportunity for a future! They haven't been alive long enough to realise that these "predictions" have been going on since 1972, even before their own PARENTS were born and we're still here! They are emotional and deeply invested in a lie that will ultimately lead to the death of billions but if TPTB can harness their rage and their passion, in all its ignorance, they will have a situation where winning is a foregone conclusion! How is it discriminatory not to lower the voting age from 18 to 16? If this is the case, why is it 16? This is also surely discriminatory in itself. To go by these rules every live person must also be entitled to a vote even if they are not old enough to know what is going on.

In Australia it is 18 and compulsory. The only change I would make is to have it voluntary. I would still vote and at least if for some reason I did not, I would be happy that I would not be getting fined for not voting.

I think the United States you have to be 21 and older to vote.

In the U.S. it should be 21, and mandatory armed service duty of a minimum of two years or you can't vote until you're 31.

Voting age needs to be legal adult age.

I thought it was 18 or 21 in America, but it should stay where it is. I truly believe that if it isn't broken, don't go tryin to fix it, or change it. I don't hear our young people crying out that the age to vote is too old. They just seem to accept the age it is. Of course there's always the select few that challenge anything just to be rebellious, especially as a young adult. But leave the voting age alone, it's worked for a long time and will continue to!

Hi Lyn. I can try to explain it for you. The younger you are, the more likely you are to vote with your heart and not your head! So agendas like equality, workers rights, the environment etc, all sound like things you should be behind. Later in life you work out that "it's the economy stupid", and vote "right wing". The lower the voting age, the more votes for demorats/labour/greens/red shirts etc. It has nothing to do with "human rights", it"s another method of ballot harvesting by the left! (It's harder to encourage illegal immigration on islands like NZ and AUS, as it is with land borders like Mexico.), so lets lower the voting age instead!Edited 24-Nov-22 01:47am

Should they be able to totally support themselves with no help from their parents or the Government then that is fine by me. Voting is a privilege and a responsibility, not a toy.

The voting age is 18 in the USA! It is NOT compulsory to vote in USA. However, some states (USA) make it very difficult for minorities to vote! FYI: It was not the young (too young to vote) that voted Trump into office.
