Do You Think a Wild Stray Cat is Happier Indoors?
Debra D 624780Jan 02, 24
I recently box trapped two beautiful cats, that were so starved. Now their hair is getting long, they are so very beautiful. Today they got gifts from Santa. They are enjoying playing with the toys, their treats, and the warmth from our wood stove.

Why not shelter starved persons, children specially

Do you shelter starved persons? Melbourne has a substantial number of street dwellers that need to be taken care of. Would you do that? I'm sure Dan Andrews and his band of brothers were to busy building multi billion dollar roads to nowhere to concern themselves over the starving in his streets. Off topic...you started it.

Don't trap stray cats. Kill them if anything. I know this sounds harsh. but they are a pest to native birds etc in our country. trap and kill. do not trap and feed!!!! I'm horrified by your logic. We have now got open days here to kill all stray feral cats humanely.

I think you are breaking the law if you do kill them You have to take them to your local rspca

look it up. not breaking any law. feral cats are a pest here. Look before you leap

I could never kill a cat ever for any reason.

unfortunately, when they kill the native birds, kiwi, etc, they must be dealt with. It's a real problem in NZ. We value what's left of our wildlife. I own 2 cats. (I'm not a cat hater) My domesticated cats are not the problem. Feral cats breed like rabbits twice a year, and just like the rabbits, they must be eradicated. If we let this problem continue. no one will see our kiwi, kea, wood pigeon etc etc etc.Think about that for one minute.

Victorian laws are slightly different to NZ. You can't kill feral cats on crown land unless you have a permit with DELWP. You have to be a an accredited volunteer shooter. Geronimoooooo

Julie I was merely stating that we can't do that here. Nothing else. Don't read anything into it. I agree with you eradication of feral invasive species is key to the survival of our natives. Whichever method is used to do this is not up to me. Have a great day

My cat loves being inside. And outside for a while he loves to go outside to lay in the sun. We call him our inside outside cat. If your cats love being inside, then let them stay inside. At this stage

Our cat’s were rescued and we got them from the SPCA, they needed some inside time initially to give them a sense of safety and security, we added a cat door showed them how to use it, they are over 12 year’s old now, come and go as they please, leave the bird life alone, thankfully however still catch mice…

not likely, but if you feed them, the cat will hang around your back door, and every other cat will join in

It is safer that they are indoors as there are too many cars about now. Getting them used to a lead can give the cat and owner regular daily walks together

I tried a lead with one cat but she was having none of that. I did have a stroller for another one. This was great because she wasn't much of a people cat but could enjoy walks.

This cat wasn't feral but it is a funny story. My neighbor kept seeing a black cat in her back yard. After several weeks of feeding him outside she finally took him in where he was extremely happy. There was no collar so she did the vet, etc. Months went by and the neighbor was taking the cat somewhere. The people who lived behind her said, "there's so and so!". The neighbor's husband was handicapped so the people told them to keep Smutz.

So sweet! We had a semi-wild cat once who came and went as he pleased. It was hard to read him and we thought he just liked a port in a storm at times, but craved the freedom of roaming freely. I'm guessing it's all subjective- the cat's needs in the moment!

My sister found a stray kitten and took it home and "Pumpkin" became another pet for her kids, along with a dog and the cat she adopted from a shelter. But Pumpkin hated being indoors, and stayed in the yard or on the porch, sort of a compromise between being wild and domesticated.

When I first caught them, their hair was short and rough, now it is about 3 inches long and soft and beautiful and no stripes on them, just the gold all over the one the other one has gold and soft creamy white bib and feet. I have no idea where they came from, but they were just hide over bones when I found them.

When my mother inlaw saw it she had a fit, it was black, but after she stuck it in a laundry sink, it turned out to be white, and all the flees, left in the basin, I tried to tame it but as soon as it found and open door it took of, We got it back inside and gave it a feed, but it took off again, It finally went back to the place the kids found the ,poor cat , and it the oly thing we could do was to let the kids take food and water out to it

Now they are such beautiful cats, i still pinch myself when I look at their beauty. I can tell their was brothers, by how much they love one another and stay side by side.
