    What about fertility issues, I mean being hit hard in the stomach or lower might lead to health issues in that area.

              I don't think it's a suitable sport for women to play, but neither is boxing. I don't really know why a woman would want to run around with a ball being chased by other women wanting to pull you over onto the dirt and grass. You could get hurt or break something. It's not for me.

                        "Girls can do anything." That was an ad campaign in Australia. It's true but it implies someone has & will continue to encourage them to have a go. Same as boys.

                                        I love it, would rather watch them than the men these days. Coming from a country league stronghold and working with SVDP even if it gives one girl a pathway out rather than having 3 kids by the age of 22 to perhaps 2 or 3 different partners it has to be a good thing.

                                                            I feel like women need to take advantage of all sports offered to them. Rugby league is not an easy sport. I wish anybody who wants to play should.

                                                              I think it is great and about time too. They play just as hard as the men and I think it encourages young girls that they can do any thing if they work hard and put their minds to it. They are fantastic role models better than some pop stars that is for sure. I am proud and I am pleased this is happening in Australia.

                                                                                            My niece plays professional Ruby League in the UK, so why not. Women can play any sport they like, there are injuries with any sport but when you're playing you're playing for the love of the game....injuries are a second thought.

                                                                                              Depends on whether girls want the tough old age sportsmen get. If they think they can cope with the issues that come when you retire from sport then let them play. Rugby league is not like any other sport so you have to judge like with like.

                                                                                                    I would not like to stop any child from participating in whatever sports they wanted to play. But geez, it's a rough sport for anyone. Look at the terrible injuries males get even when they are built like brick toilets. I wouldn't want to go back to the days of women being treated like little flowers, but we don't need to prove our toughness and strength. Any male would have been made to give birth wouldn't have lasted!

                                                                                                        I feel ok with it but to a certain age. Same with kids sport. Some girls are built bigger than some men but they need to stick to that sport. Don’t want to see girls playing any contact sports with men. Same as trans stick to mens sport and stay away from women’s games.

                                                                                                          I support women being able to play all sports but I feel like this gender equality thing is making us forget our physiological differences. Women have different bone density for starters and there are different levels of hormones (testosterone) which affects a lot of things. I feel like we should be celebrating our differences rather than trying to fit us into one category. Which is why I 100% support however feel we should be focusing on our strengths because you can't really compare men and woman. I mean if there was truly gender equality we would have men and women playing rugby together right? But no, that is waaay to dangerous. So there ya go.

That being said my grandfather was a Professor of Medicine, specialising in Pathology and Anatomy. In his day he was one of the UK's leading experts in those fields. He did not approve of women/girls playing Contact Sports such as Football (AFL was unheard of) Rugby, Wrestling etc., his belief was that physiologically the female body was not suited to these sports - it had nothing to do with gender as such. If the reports in the media around the world are true that SINCE THE ADVENT OF Women playing NRLW/ AFLW, FFW etc, the number of Women who have been badly injured as a result of taking part far exceeds, on average, those suffered by men over many years longer.If those reports are true then maybe my Grandfather was right. Of course he was a man and therefore, with today's attitude that Men are Always Wrong he would be disregarded and condemned as being a misogynist, a male supremacist or somesuch nonsense!

                                                                                                                        Sounds like your grandfather was a smart man and you're right, today he would have been thought of as a misogynist! But that would have been undeserved. There are TWO sexes and biology must ALWAYS trump this new paradigm where there are "allegedly" multiple genders. This, I believe, does an injustice to BOTH men and women. Can women put there minds towards something and succeed? ABSOLUTELY, BUT there are always unforeseen consequences to those actions and, long-term, these can be very harmful and I'll give you an example from my own history with contact sports. I was born late 1964 with a dislocated hip. It wasn't until I began to walk that my first time parents decided that they WEREN'T going mad but sometimes one leg was longer than the other and I was taken to the GP. Long story short I was the first Australian baby operated on by an Australian team to fix my hip in 1966 at the Camperdown Children's Hospital. All went well and when I was 12 I decided to play judo at the local PCYC which I did for 4 nights per week for 4 years. I was young, fit and old age was an ETERNITY away but because I had battered myself for those years in my youth I have had multiple orthopaedic operations and I am in almost CONSTANT pain. Would this be the case if I hadn't pounded myself into the ground? I was GOOD at it, even to the point of being considered for selection to the first women's judo players in the first Olympic Games with female athletes in the sport in 1984 if I recall correctly, but a boy and a pregnancy resulting in my son put that out of the equation and that's history. I was NEVER attempting to prove that I was as good as a guy because I'm built differently as God the Creator made me to be, however I have a strong feeling that some of these women choosing traditionally male sports are doing just that! But I can do something a man can NEVER do and that's birth almost 10 pound babies and breech babies over 9 pound through my pelvis because I'm NOT a man! I'd rather be unconfused and unashamed to be a FEMALE, one of only TWO separate, different but equal genders. Thanks for reading this opus.

                                                                                                                                                More injuries, more waiting time for people already on the list for urgent medical procedures as "athletes" seem to be tended to asap with knee and other "reconstruction surgeries".

                                                                                                                                                  I know Mopos, I don't begrudge them but there seems to be so many more and more frequent injuries in all sports for all participants, just never used to hear about them before or they just played differently and avoided injuries.

                                                                                                                                                                  Maybe you should expand your horizons. I reside in Australia but I know what football is played in USA. Live a little and find out what sports are played in other countries. I'm sure you can find a match on You Tube. Rugby is played in many countries.

                                                                                                                                                                  Hi Uncle Walter, long time, no hear - hope you are well. Rugby is like the roughest tackle bits of gridiron, but in passing the ball, (I think?), it can only be passed or thrown backward, or to another player, (hopefully on the same team), behind you. If I'm in a 'dangerous' mood, I can watch men playing Rugby or boxing; don't really know that I feel comfortable watching women play Rugby. Cannot fathom why anyone would want to watch two women box each other. But, as always, that's just me.

                                                                                                                                                                  Rugby and rugby league are quite different. They used to be very similar as Rugby split in 1895 over pay and conditions. Rugby is the upper and middle class game, often played in universities (although not in NZ where it is played by everyone) league is a working class game in every country it is played in (although not many compared to Rugby) Rugby is more Chess, league draughts (or checkers as they say in the US)

My opinion though is if a woman wants to play it and the teams are there now then what is wrong with that. Soccer, Tennis, Rugby, AFL, squash, etc. Go girls.
